The Dover Police Department conducted this DUI checkpoint in April of
2001 on the west end of town near Rt. 8. Dover P.D. is one of ten

Delaware's DUI laws.

A Dover Police officer talks to a driver passing through the
checkpoint. He is alert for any smell of alcohol on the driver's
breath.

Officers also listen to what the driver says back to them in
conversation. Does the driver slur his or her words? Do they
speak coherently?
|
|
|
An officer will also look for signs of glassy, glazed or
red eyes. Anyone suspected of DUI will be asked to step out of the
vehicle for a field sobriety test.

 Police
agencies often borrow floodlights so they can provide a safe and well lit
environment for their officers to work in, and for motorists passing
through the checkpoint.
