Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS) >> Office of Highway Safety (OHS)

Corporate Outreach is all about partnering with the corporate community to help save lives on our state roadways through education and awareness.

Never before has it been more important for employers to make traffic safety a corporate priority. Work-related roadway crashes are the leading cause of death in the U.S. workforce. But the impact that traffic crashes have on businesses is much larger. Last year, 43,000 people died in traffic crashes and 3 million were injured—many of them were employees. Traffic crashes cause a disruption in the workplace through absenteeism, lowered employee morale, lost productivity, loss of institutional knowledge and retraining.

Whether they occur on or off the job, motor vehicle crashes cost employers nearly $60 billion annually. The average on-the-job crash costs an employer $16,500. If an employee is killed in a crash, this cost can jump to more than half a million dollars. Fortunately, most traffic crashes do not result in a fatality or a serious injury, but even small mishaps cost your organization.

Mission : We are committed to helping businesses educate their employees, their most valuable resource, to reduce traffic related crashes, injuries and their associated costs through highway safety awareness.
